A Sofia police investigator has been charged with taking a €500 bribe. Sofia City Prosecutor's Office says he asked for and took the money to send his pre-trial case file to prosecutors with a recommendation to close it, and to help get the case dropped.
Evidence gathered so far shows the money was handed over on 6 November at about 3pm in Sofia, near the junction of Hristo Botev and Todor Aleksandrov boulevards.
On 7 November the officer was charged under Article 302, point 1, last clause, read with Article 301, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. Bail was set at €3,000.
The case is run by the Investigation Department at Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, under the supervision of prosecutors.
Bail was set after taking into account that the defendant's health has sharply worsened and he has been taken to hospital.
