The Sofia Directorate of Interior Affairs (SDVR) is conducting an investigation into the death of a 39-year-old man whose body was discovered near the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia. The Director of SDVR, Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov, held a press briefing to share initial findings from the investigation.

We assume it was an unfortunate incident, but work on the case continues. It's too early to draw any conclusions,
stated Commissioner Nikolov.

According to information provided by the police, the report of the discovered body came from a citizen. Video footage from security cameras in the area shows that the man was in an unstable condition before the incident.

We observe from the video surveillance that the man was in quite an inadequate state before falling on the stairs, where the fatal impact likely occurred,
Nikolov clarified.

The Chief Commissioner emphasized that at the moment there are no indications of a violent death. He revealed additional information about the deceased:

Our data indicate that he was previously a tennis coach, but for some time he had begun to systematically use narcotic substances and alcohol, and this is likely the cause of his death, but again - it's too early to make such conclusions,
Nikolov added.

The investigation continues, with results from the autopsy and toxicological tests expected to shed more light on the causes of the man's death. The police are urging potential witnesses to contact the nearest district department.
