Russian ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova met prime minister Rumen Radev at the Council of Ministers over the latest drone strikes on merchant ships off the Bulgarian coast.

The meeting lasted under an hour. What was said has not been made public.

Earlier in the morning, before the Security Council met, Radev said he would speak to the ambassador about the latest incidents involving merchant ships in the Black Sea. "That is why today I will summon Ambassador Mitrofanova for a talk," he said. She arrived after the council's emergency session.

The Council of Ministers did not say what questions were put to Mitrofanova, and what she said is not known. Radev is expected to make a statement later.

The prime minister said Bulgaria still has no firm evidence that would let it blame a specific country.

The authorities are asking NATO and the European Union for help with the coming investigation, and they continue to seek international technical help to establish where the drones came from. In talks with Western partners, Sofia will push for closer monitoring of the air and sea space and for ways to respond to new incidents.

On 11 October we reported that transport minister Georgi Peev will arrive in Burgas on 12 October to discuss shipping safety with the municipality and the region. The attack on 6 October took place about 70 nautical miles east of Byala and Cape St Athanas.

In the strikes on 6 October, ALFA WATAN sank and ABLE was badly damaged. This time two vessels were hit much closer to Bulgarian territorial waters.
