Bulgaria's foreign ministry has warned Bulgarians in France, Italy, Belgium and Portugal to be careful. The same goes for anyone travelling there soon. The ministry says they should avoid crowds and main squares.

The warning is on the ministry's website. It advises people to follow the orders of local authorities and to check public transport timetables ahead of time.

Mass protests and unrest are under way in Paris, Milan, Brussels, Lisbon and other European cities. There have been clashes with police and traffic problems. In Italy, the situation is already calming down.

In France, the protests began in September and have spread across the country. People are protesting against the rising cost of living and the poor state of schools. Looting and unrest have broken out in recent days, and at least 2,400 people have been detained, BTA reported.

President Emmanuel Macron said in a national address on 19 October that the nation feels "anger and shame" over the unrest and looting. "Those who looted will have to pay for the damage, and those who tried to bring down the Republic will be held to account," he added.

The ministry says tension in France will continue and lead to more strikes, mainly affecting public transport.

For up-to-date information on disruption, the ministry recommends two platforms. Strike Tracker shows current and upcoming strikes and protests, while Sortiraparis lists the official orders of the prefecture and police in France.
