A peaceful protest will take place outside the regional administration offices in Burgas and Kardzhali on Monday, October 5, from 12:00 to 13:00. The National Federation "Agriculture and Forestry," part of the Podkrepa trade union, is organizing the protest and wants farm and food minister Plamen Abrovski to resign.
The union sent its demand in an open letter to prime minister Rumen Radev, members of parliament and the media.
The anger follows comments Abrovski made on Bulgarian National Radio's "Horizont" program about merging the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture with the Executive Forest Agency. In the interview, the minister said the aquaculture agency "barely functions." Union members reject that claim.
The protesters also want the fisheries agency kept as a separate body, with all its regional offices intact.
