Due to increased traffic, the traffic organization in the repaired section of the "Trakia" motorway in the Sofia region between the 24th and 33rd kilometer is undergoing changes. Starting today, until the end of the week, at four intervals during the afternoon hours, traffic from Plovdiv to Sofia will be completely stopped.
At 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM, for a period of approximately 30 to 45 minutes, all vehicles traveling from the southern to the northern capital will be forced to wait. During these periods, in the lane for Sofia, where three lanes are formed, only traffic from Sofia to Plovdiv will be carried out. The purpose of this temporary measure is to optimize traffic flow and regulate traffic during the formation of car columns.
Drivers are appealed to allow extra travel time, strictly observe road signs and the introduced temporary traffic organization. It is also recommended that they align their trips with the introduced time restrictions.
We remind you that the repair works, covering a 9-kilometer section, are the reason for diverting traffic from the lane for Burgas to the lane for Sofia. The "Road Infrastructure" Agency apologizes for the inconvenience caused, emphasizing the need for repair works to ensure the safety of travel. To increase throughput, drivers can also use the emergency lane. Drivers must be especially careful, drive at an appropriate speed and avoid risky overtaking that endangers the safety of all road users.
It is noted that during peak hours, when a large number of people travel simultaneously, car columns are formed and traffic slows down. The analysis of the data shows that the most intensive traffic is observed between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM in the specified section of the "Trakia" motorway in the Sofia region. On average, in recent days, 1200 vehicles per hour have passed in the direction of Plovdiv, with a throughput capacity of the route under repair of about 900 vehicles per lane. In the direction from Plovdiv to Sofia, the intensity is about 1100 cars per hour, with a throughput capacity of 700 vehicles per lane.
Passengers traveling to and from Plovdiv are offered alternative routes - the Podbalkanski road I-6 Sofia - Karlovo, as well as the road Ihtiman - Samokov.
At the discretion of the "Traffic Police", additional measures can be introduced to regulate traffic.
