Sliven prosecutors have appealed the €5,000 bail that Sliven District Court set for the Turkish truck driver charged over a fatal crash on the Trakia motorway towards Burgas. They want a stricter measure.

Burgas Court of Appeal will hear the appeal on Monday, 12 October.

The crash happened in the early afternoon of 3 October at km 266 of the motorway. Three cars had stopped in the emergency lane because one of them had broken down when the Turkish truck hit them. The driver of the broken-down car died. Two people were injured, and one was flown to hospital by medical helicopter.

The driver is charged with causing a fatal crash through negligence. Prosecutors say the offence is serious and had grave consequences, and that the man may go into hiding and flee Bulgaria.

Police said on the day of the crash that the driver's tests for alcohol and drugs were negative. A vehicle technical expert report is still to come.
