Official dates for the presidential vote
Following a meeting of the chairmen of the parliamentary groups in the National Assembly, the official dates for the election of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria were announced.
The first round of the presidential election will take place on October 25.
In the event that none of the candidates gathers the necessary support and a runoff is required, the second round is scheduled for November 1.
Constitutional requirements
The procedure for scheduling the elections is guided by strict legal norms:
- The Parliament has the authority to set the dates for the vote.
- The elections must be held no earlier than 3 months and no later than 2 months before the end of the incumbent president's term.
- The current term of the head of state expires on January 22, 2027.
