Prime Minister Rumen Radev is dismissing the executive director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, Dr. Angel Mavrovski, from his post. The decision was made at the proposal of the Minister of Agriculture, Plamen Abrovski, and comes into effect today.

Professor Svetla Yancheva becomes the new head of the agency. "Her introduction will take place at 11 a.m. today. I spoke with Dr. Mavrovski and asked him to organize the handover of the post; I will thank him for what he has done, we must have continuity," the Minister of Agriculture explained.

"We are forming a new team with new people; Dr. Mavrovski did a very good job and showed that the BFSA can communicate with people about its activities. His work will be built upon. Every new management comes with a new team," added Plamen Abrovski, emphasizing that the goal is for the institution to continue to develop.

Dr. Angel Mavrovski took charge of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency at the end of February by decision of the caretaker government. During his term, the agency carried out a number of large-scale inspections, during which illegal slaughterhouses were uncovered and meat processing plants were shut down.

Within the framework of these actions, significant quantities of food products were also destroyed due to established violations of food safety requirements. The new leadership of the BFSA is expected to build on what has been done so far and continue the work on strengthened control in the sector.
