The government has allocated an additional 920,300 euros under the Ministry of Health's 2026 budget. The funds will increase the subsidy for the Bulgarian Red Cross, with 154,300 euros of that amount earmarked for the organization's Mountain Rescue Service.
According to the government's press office, the larger subsidy for the Bulgarian Red Cross won't apply only to 2026 — it will remain in place going forward. This will allow the organization to carry out its humanitarian work in line with its own objectives and policies, helping vulnerable Bulgarian citizens as well as people under humanitarian protection in the country.
Support for the Bulgarian Red Cross is not a new topic. The organization's chairman, Hristo Grigorov, addressed the issue back in late May at the regular session of the 68th General Assembly. He reported that in 2025, nearly half a million people received assistance from the Bulgarian Red Cross.
