Lawmakers from PP are proposing that the minimum wage in 2027 continue to be calculated as 50% of the average national salary. The proposal comes between the first and second readings of amendments to the Labor Code, through which the Council of Ministers is introducing four criteria for determining the minimum wage going forward.
In their justification, the lawmakers write that there simply isn't enough time for the 2027 minimum wage to be set under the new system. The governing coalition's idea is for only the four criteria to remain written into the Labor Code, while the actual calculation formula would be spelled out in a separate regulation. Before that can happen, however, the regulation must go through public consultation — which can only begin after lawmakers vote on the changes to the Labor Code.
That's why, according to PP, the regulation won't be ready in time, even though the minimum wage figure needs to be known now — because of calculations for next year's budget. That's why they're proposing that for next year the minimum wage again be calculated as 50% of the average salary. According to the lawmakers, this would set the 2027 minimum wage at 692 euros.
The problem is that the Finance Ministry's guidelines for preparing the 2027 budget were already drawn up using a different figure — a minimum wage of 660 euros.
