A fire in a block of flats on William Gladstone Street in Burgas gutted two rooms in a first-floor flat. No one was hurt.
Firefighters got to the scene fast and put the blaze out quickly. The flames never reached the upper floors or nearby buildings.
Furniture and belongings in the two rooms were destroyed. Smoke and heat spread through the rest of the flat.
The fire started on one of the floors, and within minutes thick smoke covered the building and the street outside. The smoke and fire engines put the neighbourhood on edge for a while.
Early signs point to a fault in a kitchen extractor hood, which may have been blocked or caked in grease. That has not been confirmed yet. Grease that builds up in such installations is dangerous at high temperatures.
Inspectors will now try to pin down the exact cause and where the fire started, and work out the full damage.
