The large-scale city-wide celebration will commence at 10:30 a.m. on 22.09.2026 (Tuesday) in front of the memorial plaques of the fighters for national liberation. It is dedicated to Independence Day—a moment that transformed Bulgaria into a sovereign state, equal to all other nations, rather than just a public holiday or dry historical data.
This holiday symbolizes the overcoming of deep national wounds inflicted by the unjust provisions of the Treaty of Berlin. Through the words of the Manifesto, borders were redrawn, and the Bulgarian people demonstrated that freedom is the fruit of dignity and struggle, not of charitable gifts, following centuries of oppression and division.
The official program includes the following activities:
- The raising of the national tricolor, to be performed by the students of the XX Guards Student Detachment from SU "Ivan Vazov" – Pomorie;
- A thanksgiving prayer service;
- Participation by children from DG "Veselushko" and DG "Detelina," as well as students from OU "Hristo Botev" and SU "Ivan Vazov."
The celebrations will conclude with the laying of wreaths and flowers, and the cultural portion will be brought to a close with performances by DFTS "Rakovina."
