Police began a special operation in Varna region this morning against crimes involving political rights and petty crime, the regional police directorate in Varna said.
In the early hours, officers detained a man known to police as a career offender in the region. Police say he has been identified as the perpetrator of 58 offences.
The man has served five prison terms and was released from the last one two months ago. He has 30 criminal records for robbery, theft, drugs and other crimes, and has been charged in those cases.
During the operation, officers checked nearly 700 people, more than 720 cars and 85 addresses where there were signs of possible breaches of election law.
They issued 130 fines under the Road Traffic Act and 49 warning notices under Article 65 of the Interior Ministry Act. Police have opened six pre-trial proceedings and five fast-track proceedings, and have so far recorded 13 offences.
