Varna Police Warns of Euro Scams: How to Protect Yourself?

The Regional Directorate of the Police in Varna is informing the mayors of the municipalities about the risks of scams during the introduction of the euro. Measures are being taken to protect citizens, especially the elderly, through explanatory campaigns and increased police presence.

The Regional Police Directorate in Varna informed the mayors of municipalities in the region about the risks and possible scams when we enter the Eurozone.

Representatives from all 12 municipalities in the Varna region gathered at the building of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior - Varna. They were explained how, especially the elderly in small settlements, can be protected from scams related to the introduction of the euro and how they can distinguish real banknotes from fake ones.

Meetings with experts in small settlements have been initiated on how not to fall for scams after January 1. There will be increased police presence in small settlements, where the first pensions in euros will be distributed.

Commissioner Krassen Torimatzov, Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior - Varna: "Videos made by the economic police will be published on the official channels of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior - Varna. The difference between the real currency sign and the counterfeit will be shown specifically and accurately."

The police also warned that after January 1, money in euros should only be exchanged at bank branches or at Bulgarian post offices on site.
