The Burgas-Sofia air route will keep running through the winter, Burgas airport says. National carrier Bulgaria Air will fly it three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Burgas will also get a direct link to Bristol from summer 2027. EasyJet starts the route on 28 May 2027, with two flights a week, on Mondays and Fridays, according to Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, which holds the concession for the airports in Burgas and Varna.
The company says the new route gives travellers between Bulgaria's southern Black Sea coast and the UK more options. Passengers from Britain will be able to fly straight to Burgas without changing planes, making it easy to reach the seaside resorts and the area's cultural and natural sights.
The two Black Sea airports, in Burgas and Varna, have handled more than 3 million passengers since the start of 2026.
The concession holder won an award for its work bringing tourists in and out and promoting Bulgaria as a destination. The award was handed out on 25 September at the Central Military Club in Sofia. The magazine Destination Bulgaria holds the ceremony every year, with the tourism industry, government bodies, local authorities and businesses taking part.
