The Military Appeals Court has ordered a "podpiska", a written pledge restriction, for Martin Varadinov, an employee of the National Protective Service charged with causing bodily harm to journalist Sonya Koltuklieva, BTA reported. A three-judge panel made the ruling, which is final.
The case reached the appeals court after prosecutors challenged an earlier decision. They wanted Varadinov held in custody.
The Sofia Military Court freed him a week ago, saying no pretrial restraint was needed.
It said Varadinov was on duty and carrying out his duties at the time of the incident. It also said the evidence gathered does not show that the injury came from a blow by him.
