Kiril Petkov's trial over the arrest of Boyko Borisov continues today at the Sofia City Court. Petar Todorov, a former chief secretary of the Interior Ministry, and Gen. Emil Tonev, head of the National Protection Service (NSO), who has resigned, are expected to testify.
Todorov is now an MP for Progressive Bulgaria.
Petkov, former leader of We Continue the Change, is charged with misconduct in office and abuse of power as a public official. Four years ago, police arrested Boyko Borisov, Vladislav Goranov and Sevdelina Arnaudova. Prosecutors say the arrests were unlawful, and the court later ruled them illegal.
Witnesses at the last hearing, at the end of September, said Todorov did not know in advance about the arrests of Borisov, Arnaudova and Goranov.
