Petar Todorov is the New Director of the State Puppet Theatre - Burgas

Director Petar Todorov has been appointed director of the State Puppet Theatre - Burgas, after winning the competition held by the Ministry of Culture. He takes over from Hristina Arsenova, who is retiring after 32 years of leadership.

Director Petar Todorov has been appointed as the director of the State Puppet Theatre (DPT) – Burgas, after winning the competition of the Ministry of Culture, the theatre announced. 

The institution specifies that he takes over the leadership after the decision of the long-time director Hristina Arsenova to retire from the post after 32 years. Petar Todorov is a graduate of the Primary School „P. R. Slaveykov“ and the former Technical School of Construction and Architecture „Kolyu Ficheto“ in Burgas, after which he graduated in „Directing for Puppet Theatre“ at NATFA in the class of Yuliya Ognyanova and „Art Management“ at the New Bulgarian University. He has specialized in the field of arts in Great Britain, the USA, and Austria and has carried out creative residencies in several European countries.

In his professional career, he has over 35 puppet, dramatic, and dance productions, created in theatres in Bulgaria and abroad, including in Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. His performances have participated in over 200 international festivals and tours in more than 40 countries on different continents and have been awarded over 20 prizes. For the performance „Filifionka, who believed in disasters“ of DPT – Burgas he won the „Icarus“ award for best puppet performance in 2019.

The theatre recalls that as a pedagogue, Todorov has led workshops in over 10 countries, and as a manager, he has experience at the head of the Theatre for New Forms „Shtrih“ in Sofia, the Art Center „For the Rhodopes“ in Smolyan and the Drama Theatre „Stefan Kirov“ in Sliven. He is also the founder of the international festivals „The Age of Aquarius“, „Forbidden for Adults“ and „Theatre in a Suitcase“. In different periods, Petar Todorov has worked at the puppet theatre in Burgas as an intern actor, director, and deputy director.
