Some sections of the front have retreated by an impressive 800 meters, with the total lost area amounting to approximately 2 square kilometers.

A key factor in this dramatic transformation is the underwater geological structure that previously "anchored" the ice tongue. Rising air and water temperatures gradually destroy this natural protection, which intensifies calving processes - the breaking off of huge ice masses.

The consequences extend beyond the local dimension. For local communities and the tourism sector, this means losing a unique natural phenomenon. For the scientific community, however, Perito Moreno is becoming an indicator of irreversible climate changes that affect even the most stable ice formations.

Modern research methods include precise radar surveys, satellite monitoring, and bathymetric mapping. Experts categorically emphasize that even if the melting process stops right now, restoring the initial parameters is impossible.

Global statistics are more than concerning - over the past 25 years, world glaciers have lost over 6,500 billion tons of ice, which represents about 5% of their total volume. Perito Moreno is no longer an exception, but another proof of large-scale climate challenges.

Lake Argentino, which traditionally was divided into two parts by the glacier, will undergo irreversible ecological changes. Local ecosystems and transport corridors are facing serious challenges that will require urgent adaptation measures.
