DPS leader Delyan Peevski says he is impressed by Iliana Yotova. He told reporters in the parliament corridors.
Peevski claimed that Rumen Radev, now prime minister and formerly president, banned a meeting of the Consultative Council for National Security, but Yotova decided to call it anyway. He said that yesterday she became president for the first time, or began to become one.
"It is the right step. Don't take this as support for her. In the first round none of us will back anyone, then we will think about it, but it is the right step. I am very pleased," the DPS leader said.
Peevski also accused the ruling parties of covering up shady deals over guardrails without certificates at the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and at Avtomagistrali. He said it is unclear how the contracts are awarded, and the topic is awkward for the government.
"Once again, ministers Ivan Demerdzhiev and Ivan Shishkov and deputy prime minister Galab Donev are being shielded over their shady deals," he said.
Peevski said Progressive Bulgaria is involved in the schemes through top-level advisers who now hold senior posts in the Council of Ministers. He said the DPS has teams that watch every ministry, and he called the situation monstrous. In his words, the ruling parties now care only about filling their own pockets.
