The Ministry of Interior is currently developing a joint program in close cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. The idea is for all information collected by roadside cameras, which allows for the profiling of drivers, to be displayed directly on the tablets of Traffic Police officers. This was explained by Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev during his hearing at the Committee on Internal Security and Public Order, in response to an inquiry from MP Petar Petrov of "Vazrazhdane" regarding synchronization between the Ministry of Interior and road authorities, such as municipalities and the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA).
Demerdzhiev clarified that the main goal of this initiative is to identify risky drivers so that they can be stopped for preventive checks. The minister expressed confidence that such an approach would have a beneficial effect on efforts to reduce road casualties in the country.
At the same time, a new concept for traffic control will be introduced, which envisions consolidating it entirely under the Ministry of Interior. Currently, responsibility is dispersed among three institutions: the Ministry of Interior, the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration" (DAI), and the staff of the toll system responsible for checking vignettes. According to the minister, this model has proven to be ineffective, primarily because the Automobile Administration lacks the necessary human resources.
Regarding infrastructure safety, the department maintains an active dialogue with the Road Infrastructure Agency:
- In one of the areas with a high concentration of accidents – near Vladaya – a safety project is set to be implemented using plastic elements to prevent unauthorized entry onto the roadway.
- Measures have also been taken to secure sections passing through neighboring settlements in the event that traffic is diverted from the main road through Vladaya.
