Part of the mountain passes remain closed, cleaning work continues, and temporary traffic restrictions have been introduced in some sections of the motorways. This became clear after a briefing by Commissioner Maria Boteva, Deputy Head of the "Road Police" Department at the General Directorate "National Police", following a meeting of the operational headquarters, convened in connection with the complex meteorological conditions.
The teams continue to work on opening important transport arteries. Part of the passes, as well as individual sections of them, remain closed, in both directions of traffic. The reason is the need to remove fallen trees and intensive cleaning of accumulated snow. The situation is described as dynamic.
From 4:00 PM today until 9:00 PM on the "Trakia" motorway, a restriction on the movement of trucks with trailers whose weight exceeds 12 tons has been introduced. The measure was taken in order to ease the traffic of passenger cars, explained Commissioner Boteva.
"All necessary actions have been taken to remove obstacles that hinder or have blocked sections of the republican road network," she said. Commissioner Boteva appealed to all citizens planning trips to inform themselves in advance about the road situation. According to her, the temporary organization of traffic with alternative routes in the affected areas along the Black Sea coast continues.
"Citizens should be armed with patience," Commissioner Maria Boteva urged.
Earlier today, ministers from the government presented up-to-date information on the situation in the flooded areas in the Burgas region and announced measures to deal with the consequences of the disaster. Reporters from various media outlets covered the event, and there was tension in the hall related to the scope of the disaster and the efforts to overcome the consequences.
