The legislative initiative of "Democratic Bulgaria" sparked significant public interest during an expert meeting in the National Assembly on July 15, 2025. Deputy Elisaveta Belobradova presented a large-scale project for modernizing the education system, which includes fundamental changes in curricula.
A key point in the proposal is the introduction of two innovative educational components: a mandatory subject "Virtues" and an optional course "Religion". The goal of this educational strategy is the comprehensive personal development of students through systematic development of ethical and spiritual qualities.
During the discussion, experts from various state institutions, non-governmental organizations, and academic circles were invited. They analyzed the potential impact of the new disciplines on the moral upbringing of the younger generation.
Parallel to the main proposals, issues related to alternative forms of education were also discussed. Special attention was paid to the regulation of parent cooperatives and private children's centers that provide additional learning opportunities.
The participants in the roundtable emphasized that the proposed changes are an attempt to overcome existing educational challenges and ensure equal access to quality education for all children.
The next step will be the official submission of the bill for consideration and voting in the plenary hall of the parliament. The debates are expected to be extremely intense and provoke a wide public response.
