Yesterday, the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee voted on a government bill proposed by Rumen Radev to criminalize violations of sanctions against the Russian Federation. The resolution passed with the support of "Progressive Bulgaria", "We Continue the Change", "Democratic Bulgaria", and DPS, while "Vazrazhdane" was the only party to vote against it.
The new sanction regulations will also apply to commercial activities and households in Burgas and the region.
Speaking from the parliamentary rostrum, "Vazrazhdane" leader Kostadin Kostadinov stated that once the bill comes into force, companies importing books from Russia will face fines, and the individuals responsible will face imprisonment. According to Kostadinov, the bill provides for a restriction on the import of any goods valued at over 20 thousand leva annually, which also includes books.
"There are a few bookstores left in the country that buy books from Russia and bring them here, but the price is very high," said Kostadinov. He added that following the "criminalization of book imports, a time will come when reading and owning Russian literature will also be criminalized."
