The Sofia City Court has postponed the preliminary hearing scheduled for today in the case against Metodi Velkov. The reason for the postponement is that the defendant was summoned to an incorrect address. The magistrates scheduled the next hearing for November 2.
The indictment against Velkov was filed by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office on August 4. He is charged with obstructing a public official from performing their official duties and with hooliganism. According to the prosecution, in 2024, while serving as a prosecutor at the Nesebar District Prosecutor's Office, Velkov caused a disturbance by insulting and cursing at Ministry of Interior officers.
The defendant climbed into an operational police vehicle and attempted to shift gears. Furthermore, he hindered junior traffic controllers from the "Road Control" group in Nesebar from working by knocking off the sterile mouthpiece of the "Alcotest Drager 7510" device. After refusing to provide breathalyzer samples, he thwarted the inspection. Later, at the Nesebar Police Station building, Velkov directed insults, made obscene gestures toward police officers, and threatened them with dismissal.
According to data from the website of the Supreme Judicial Council, on February 19, 2025, the Prosecutors' Chamber released Metodi Velkov from his position as a "prosecutor" at the Burgas District Prosecutor's Office, effective March 4, 2025.
