Adults over 18 who are covered by health insurance get a fourth dental service from 1 November: a filling or a tooth extraction, their choice. They can use it until the end of December, Dr Ivanka Obreshkova, head of the Burgas regional branch of the Bulgarian Dental Union, told Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
The extra service is part of the adult package in the new national framework contract. The contract for 2026 was signed late, but it covers the whole year.
Until now, adults could use three services under Ordinance No. 9, also fillings or extractions. That gives every insured person four in total.
Anyone who has already used the three can use the fourth. Anyone who has used none can use all four before the end of December if needed.
Children keep their package with no extra payment: one check-up and up to four treatments a year. For them, the dentist also treats teeth with pulp inflammation, as well as doing fillings and extractions.
Dr Obreshkova calls what was agreed for children, and agreed long ago, a fairly good package of services. She says it is up to parents to help children build and keep good oral habits.
The price of a check-up rises by €5, but patients do not pay for it.
