In an interview for BTA, the director of PPML “Acad. Nikola Obreshkov“ in Burgas, Milena Andonova, emphasizes the key importance of olympiads and competitions for the development of students. She explains that participation in such competitions gives children the opportunity to discover their abilities and interests, forming resilience, diligence, and discipline. Successes bring motivation and self-confidence. Andonova notes that participation in olympiads is an investment in the future of children and the education system. Scientific literacy is key, and olympiads turn science into an adventure, which stimulates the desire to learn.
PPML has a rich tradition in preparing students for olympiads, with an emphasis on various disciplines. In 2024/2025, over 70 students reached the National Round. The school works under the National Program “Student Olympiads and Competitions“ and organizes additional preparation. Teachers play a key role in inspiring and motivating students.
Andonova emphasizes the importance of early talent identification through various initiatives, including the support of local authorities and the programs of the Ministry of Education and Science. She emphasizes the importance of the first round of the olympiads, which gives students the opportunity to get acquainted with the thrill of the competition. The goal is to show that the olympiad is an opportunity to develop skills useful in any field. Her message to the directors is to take this step to give students a chance. The campaign “Participate! The Olympiad is for everyone“ aims to promote participation in the first rounds of student olympiads.
