The winning projects in the competition for an idea project for a modular system for urban furniture for the open terraces of the “Mladost“ Sports Hall, organized by Burgas Municipality, are announced. They were selected by an appointed commission consisting of: Svetozar Benchev – Director of the National Academy of Arts, Burgas branch, Arch. Sabin Popov – Chairman of the Regional College of the Chamber of Architects in Burgas, and Arch. Eli Narliyska–Haralampieva – representative of Burgas Municipality.

The competition is being realized within the framework of the project “Rejuvenate the city: Innovative measures in response to urban challenges to the quality of life and health of the community” (No. EUI01-097), financed by the European Urban Initiative (EUI), and follows the principles of the New European Bauhaus – aesthetics, sustainability and inclusion.

The main goal is the creation of an aesthetic, functional and sustainable modular system that encourages social interaction, an active lifestyle and cultural activities in the space of the terraces to the hall.

First place

Project “Dunes” (boardDUNES) Author: Arch. Alex Desov

The project offers a modular, transforming system that forms wave-like “dunes” for recreation and social contacts, and if necessary, turns into exercise equipment. The concept also includes a cultural element through built-in codes, connecting visitors with local art and content dedicated to sports and a healthy lifestyle.

Second place

“Pop-up Burgas” Author: Architectural studio THINK FORWARD

The project develops a modular system with different functional directions – Sport, Social, Culture, Play and Relax, allowing flexible configurations and various usage scenarios.

Third place

“MI concrete – Active relief” Author: Arch. Mihaela Dimitrova

The concept offers a three-dimensional urban relief made of high-strength white concrete, inspired by the sea wave, with an emphasis on sustainability, landscaping and energy-autonomous solutions.

According to the regulations of the competition, the first prize is in the amount of 2,200 euros, the second – 1,000 euros, and the third – 700 euros. Burgas Municipality reserves the right, after conducting a subsequent procedure, to award the realization of the project ideas.

Burgas Municipality thanks for the interest shown and declares its intention to continue cooperation with representatives of the creative industries for the development of a modern and inclusive urban environment.
