The Mushrooms fountain on Demokratsia Boulevard in Burgas will be ready before New Year, Burgas council says, after residents asked why work seemed slow. The deadline for the project is the end of 2026, and officials say it's on track.
Right now the contractor is waiting for a delivery of granite to cover the fountain, which is why little work is visible on the structure itself at the moment.

Council says work never stopped — it just moved to other spots, in the order set by the designers and the building firm. The architects decided to work on the garden and the surrounding area first, and only then move on to the fountain itself. Crews spent most of the summer working on the garden.
The first phase of building work started on 1 June 2026 and covers rebuilding the fountain, reinforcing its structure, restoring its old look and doing up the area around it.
The redesign plan for the site was unveiled in early 2025 as part of the international Bauhaus4Med programme, which aims to make the area greener, more useful and a better place to relax.
The fountain is one of the city's best-loved spots for children and a meeting place for generations of Burgas residents. Before work began, council ran surveys and public discussions on what the site should look like.
