Three small lion cubs are the newest addition to the zoo in Stara Zagora. The cubs are the offspring of the young lion couple Elsa and Leo and are already attracting a huge amount of interest among the visitors to the zoo.
"The three little lion cubs were born on January 20th. They are two males and one female. At the moment, they are in very good physical and health condition. We are taking the appropriate care of them. Of their parents. The mother is six years old, the father is five," shared the director of the zoo, Dr. Nayden Ilinov.
He added that the pregnancy of the mother went normally, which is three months. At the moment, no special care is being taken for the little lion cubs. They are mainly on karma.
Dr. Ilinov also added that visitors to the zoo in Stara Zagora should follow the rules of conduct, i.e., not to tease the animals, not to feed them, not to throw various objects inside the cages, because this is dangerous for the health of both the inhabitants and the health of the visitors.
"The two lions were donated to the Stara Zagora Zoo by the Republic of Slovakia. The male lion is 5 years old, the female is 6. They have been housed in our zoo since 2025 and are adapting relatively quickly. In October, the female became pregnant. To our great joy, the little offspring has been with us since January 20th," added Dr. Ilinov.
He also added that they have made changes in the feeding of the predators, by which they have started to give them mainly horse and beef meat. Also, the attitude of the employees towards the animals and their service has changed. After the main reconstruction of the zoo, which was from 2019 to 2022, they expanded the area of the rocking facility itself, so that the lions could feel comfortable in a closed environment, as well as in the zoo.
The three little lion cubs are to be christened. This will happen after the zoo announces an official competition for name suggestions.
