The renovated runway at Burgas Airport has been officially opened with a ceremonial event, the airport concessionaire "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" AD announced. This large-scale investment is key to maintaining the high safety and efficiency standards of the airport.
Major investment for the future
The renovation, valued at nearly 60 million euro, began six months ago. The main goal of the project is to guarantee the technical safety and operational readiness of the runway for the next 20 years.
"Special asphalt mixtures were used for the renewal of the pavement, providing long-lasting durability under intensive use."
Technical upgrades and new capabilities
Despite the large-scale changes, all technical parameters of the runway have been fully preserved. This allows the airport to continue handling the largest aircraft in the world, supporting the growth of tourism in the region.
- Modern pavement: Use of high‑quality asphalt mixtures.
- Efficient drainage: Fully renewed drainage system for better safety in adverse weather conditions.
- Ready for giants: Capability to accommodate landings of the largest commercial aircraft.
Start of the summer season
The active summer flight season in Burgas is expected to start as early as next week. The first pre‑scheduled flights are expected to arrive from Poland and the United Kingdom, which is an excellent sign for the recovery of international traffic.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of national and local authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as important international partners of the airport.
