A civil signal initiated a large-scale inspection in the land of Belashitsa village, located in close proximity to the Plovdiv Ring Road. Environmental inspectors from RIOSV - Plovdiv immediately mobilized a team to determine the scale of the potential environmental violation.
During the initial terrain survey, experts documented an extremely alarming picture. A massive embankment about 3 meters high served as cover for a large accumulation of diverse waste. The unregulated landfill extended over an impressive area of 200 meters in length and 5 meters in width.
Inspectors found an extremely diverse composition of discarded materials - household waste, paper and cardboard packaging, construction debris, large-scale items such as sofas, plastic materials, and others. During the inspection, a specialized truck with a boat-type container with a volume of 4 cubic meters was filmed, which was performing another dumping of waste materials.
The present company owner possessed a registration document issued by the director of RIOSV - Plovdiv. Representatives of local police authorities documented the identity of the driver and other persons on the site.
A key challenge was the lack of information regarding the ownership of the polluted terrain. The eco-inspection issued an official prescription to the mayor of Rodopi Municipality to take immediate action to identify the owner and clean up the site within 14 days, which expires on July 21, 2025.
A repeated inspection revealed an extremely disturbing fact - instead of decreasing, the waste had increased in volume. The case was reported to the specialized sector "Crimes against the Environment and Wildlife" of the General Directorate "National Police".
RIOSV - Plovdiv declared a categorical readiness to continue monitoring and, if necessary, take additional administrative and punitive measures to prevent further environmental pollution.
