Unstable weather on July 13: storms in the west, showers along the coast

On July 13, Bulgaria remains hot, but with thunderstorms in many areas, including around Burgas and along the Black Sea coast.

Weather in Burgas and the region on July 13

On July 13, a more unstable summer day is expected in Burgas with more clouds and conditions for precipitation and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening.

The minimum temperature in the city of Burgas in the morning will be around 19–20°C, and the maximum during the day will reach around 27–28°C. In the interior of the region (Aytos, Karnobat, Sredets), daytime values will be similar, around 28–29°C.

Cloudiness over Burgas and the coast will be significant, with periods of thicker clouds. The probability of precipitation is increased – about 60–80%, with brief, sometimes more intense showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon.

The sea water temperature near Burgas will be around 24–25°C, remaining pleasant for swimming, despite the gloomier weather.

A light to moderate wind will blow from the north-northwest, with speeds around 4–8 m/s, which may temporarily intensify during thunderstorms. The sea state will be slight to moderate.

Sofia and Sofia District

In Sofia and the region on July 13, the weather will be warm, but unstable. During the day there will be variable cloudiness, with more sun before noon and the development of cumulonimbus clouds in the afternoon.

The maximum temperatures in the capital will be around 26–27°C, and the minimums – around 15–17°C.

Temporary rain showers are expected in the afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms in some places. The probability of precipitation is about 50–60%. The wind will be light to moderate from the northwest, strengthening during storms.

Western and Eastern Bulgaria

Western Bulgaria

In Western Bulgaria on July 13, the day will be warm, but with typical July instability. The morning will be predominantly sunny, while powerful cumulonimbus clouds will develop in the afternoon and evening.

Maximum temperatures in most western regions will range between 27 and 32°C, and minimums – around 15–18°C.

In the afternoon hours, there will be brief rain in many places, accompanied by thunderstorms. Locally more intense storms with sudden wind gusts and hail are also possible, mainly over the Rila-Rhodope region and the Central Balkan Mountains. The probability of precipitation in Western Bulgaria reaches 60–80%.

Eastern Bulgaria

In Eastern Bulgaria, outside the coast (Shumen, Sliven, Yambol, Targovishte, Razgrad, the interior of Dobrich and Burgas region), the weather will be cooler compared to previous days, with more clouds and precipitation in places.

Maximum temperatures will be between 24 and 29°C, and minimums – around 16–19°C.

Cloudiness will be significant, with precipitation in many places, more intense in the northeastern regions. A light to moderate northwesterly wind will blow, which will maintain a cooler feeling.

Mountain weather

On July 13, in mountain regions, it will be variable, with better conditions for walks in the first half of the day and unstable weather in the afternoon.

The morning will be mostly sunny, but around and after noon, cumulonimbus clouds will develop, especially over the massifs in Western and Central Bulgaria.

Maximum temperatures will be around 21–23°C at 1200 m and around 14–17°C at 2000 m. In the afternoon, brief, sometimes more intense, showers with thunderstorms are expected in many places in the mountains. Stronger wind gusts are also possible along the ridges.

Tourists should plan longer hikes for the morning hours and avoid open ridges and peaks in the afternoon, when the risk of thunderstorms increases.

Black Sea coast

Along the Black Sea coast, including the North and South, on July 13 the weather will not be completely stable. Cloudiness will be mostly significant, with precipitation in many places and thunderstorms, more intense along the northern coast.

The maximum air temperatures along the coast will be between 24 and 28°C, with values around 27–28°C expected near Burgas. Morning minimum temperatures will be around 19–21°C.

The sea water temperature along the Black Sea coast will be around 24–26°C, with warmer water in the southern bays and around Burgas. The sea state will be slight to moderate.

A light to moderate northwesterly wind will blow along the entire coast, which may strengthen in places during thunderstorms.
