During the government meeting, key issues related to the international status of the Bulgarian city of Nessebar and the results of the UNESCO session in Paris were discussed. The Minister of Culture Marian Bachev categorically reassured the public regarding concerns about a possible removal of the ancient city from the list of protected sites.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov highlighted the successful chairmanship of Bulgaria during the international meeting, emphasizing that political concerns have been completely dispelled. "The Bulgarian chairmanship was extremely positive," the head of state told journalists.
Marian Bachev further explained that Nessebar will maintain its world cultural heritage status for at least the next two years. "There is no danger of removal, provided we fulfill the tasks set for us to preserve the site," the Minister of Culture emphasized.
During the session, over 250 files were reviewed, demonstrating the scale and significance of the international meeting. The 47th session of the World Heritage Committee was chaired by Bulgaria, which further enhanced the country's international prestige.
Parallel to cultural issues, the government also focused on economic challenges. The Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova is set to comment on the National Statistical Institute data, which reports an inflation rate of 4.4% on an annual basis for the month of June.
Prime Minister Zhelyazkov expressed the need for additional explanations regarding inflationary processes, insisting on more detailed information after the government meeting. "We must provide more clarity for the media space," he said.
The success of the Bulgarian chairmanship in UNESCO and the preservation of Nessebar's status are becoming significant diplomatic and cultural achievements for the country. International recognition confirms the importance of Bulgarian cultural heritage and our ability to preserve it.
