Rescuers found a body yesterday in the Kominite area on Mount Vitosha, the Bulgarian Red Cross mountain rescue service told BTA. A Sofia team brought it down from the mountain in the afternoon.
Hiking conditions on the mountains are good today, the rescue service says, though facilities at the resorts are not operating.
Rescuers are telling hikers to stick to marked trails, carry proper gear and keep their phones charged.
Most of Bulgaria will see sunshine today, though clouds will hang over parts of the Rhodope mountains, with light to moderate wind higher up. Evening temperatures in the mountains should hover around 0°C, after a low of minus 4 was recorded near Botev peak this morning.
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology forecasts mostly sunny weather in the mountains, with cloud and rain only around Strandzha, where strong winds will blow from the east-northeast. Highs should reach around 12°C at 1,200 metres and around 5°C at 2,000 metres.
