Burgas archaeologists discovered a unique depiction of a human figure on a ceramic handle from the medieval city of Rusokastro. The figure, drawn with straight lines, likely represents a young girl. The excavations were funded by the Municipality of Kameno, the Ministry of Culture, and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria in 2025.

For decades, images of figures drawn only with straight lines or sticks have been popular in everyday life, and especially on the internet. They are the basis of animations, games, and much more. The roots of this type of drawing are very old; such can be found in the Middle Ages, antiquity, and even further back in time.

Such an image was also discovered by Burgas archaeologists during excavations of the medieval city of Rusokastro. A human figure was carefully depicted on the handle of a large ceramic vessel. The arms, body, and legs of the figure are very visible. The important thing here is that two long protrusions are presented on the head, which are spiral-shaped - that is, it is most likely a question of braids. According to the archaeologists, this is a sign that the image is more likely of a young girl.

The excavations in 2025 are financed by the Municipality of Kameno, the Ministry of Culture, and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria.
