European Security: A Balance Between Defense and Diplomacy
The true strength of NATO is not measured solely by military capabilities, but by the Alliance's leading role in maintaining global peace and stability. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly, Mihaela Dotsova, to the participants of the parliamentary summit in Istanbul.
The greatest victory is the prevention of new wars and the preservation of peace through responsible political decisions, stated Dotsova.
The Bulgarian delegation, which also included Ivan Lalov and Daniel Mitov, reaffirmed our country's consistent commitment to collective defense. According to Dotsova, the security of the European continent cannot be achieved through military potential alone – active diplomacy and conflict prevention are key.
Investments in Modern Defense and Industrial Capacity
In the context of modern technological threats, Mihaela Dotsova highlighted the need for:
- Targeted investments in an integrated defense base.
- Strengthening stability in the Black Sea region and NATO's Eastern flank.
- Developing industrial potential as a strategic asset for the entire Alliance.
Bulgaria actively supports the concept of a "stronger European pillar within NATO" and is implementing projects under the EU's SAFE mechanism, which enhance our defense capabilities.
Diplomacy as a Path to Peace in Ukraine
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the President of the National Assembly was categorical: Bulgaria supports the leading role of diplomacy in achieving a just and lasting peace based on international law and the UN Charter. Our country will continue to assist in international efforts that lay the foundations for future post-war reconstruction.
