The space is known among the citizens of Burgas as "The Hole". The announcement of the competition came after a 15-year legal battle, after which Burgas Municipality managed to regain ownership of the plot of nearly 11 decares in the city center. Immediately after that, a public consultation was held among the residents regarding the future of the place.

The conducted survey indicates that 78 percent want a green zone in the city center. A cultural institution is indicated as the second most preferred option, and the idea for a building related to education remains in third place.

Next week, an international nine-member jury with the participation of experts from Bulgaria, Belgium, Germany, Turkey and the Netherlands will meet in Burgas. They will have to choose the three best projects among the hundreds of proposals.

The winner of the competition will receive a prize of 50,000 euros, the second place is with a premium of 30,000 euros, and the third - 15,000 euros. Two incentive awards are also provided. After the announcement of the winners, Burgas Municipality will present their projects to the public.

The final decision on the future appearance of "The Hole" will be made by the residents of the city, who will have the last word on how the space in the center of Burgas should look.
