The Summer Theater in Sozopol undergoes a complete transformation
Following the end of the active summer season, a key phase of the renovation of the iconic Summer Theater in Sozopol begins. The project aims to transform the stage into a modern facility that meets the highest contemporary standards for cultural events.
The modernization is part of the Sozopol Municipality's strategy for the development of cultural tourism and the improvement of the urban environment.
What does the renovation project include?
- Replacing the spectator seating with new and more comfortable seats;
- Installation of modern stage lighting and sound equipment;
- Construction of new dressing rooms and changing rooms for artists;
- Ensuring an accessible environment for people with disabilities;
- Complete landscaping of the surrounding area near the theater.
The activities are a natural continuation of the construction of a new stage structure that began in the spring. The project is expected to be fully completed by February 2028.
International partnership
The large-scale reconstruction is being implemented in partnership with the Vize Municipality, Turkey. Funding is provided under the Interreg Bulgaria-Turkey 2021–2027 Program, which underscores the cross-border importance of cultural cooperation.
Upon completion of the renovation works, the Summer Theater in Sozopol will offer significantly better conditions for theatrical productions, concerts, and international festivals, re-establishing itself as a hub for culture on the Black Sea coast.
