The National Road Agency is taking large-scale actions to reduce incidents on the national road network. Within the current week, activities for improving two critical sections in Sofia region were finalized, which are part of a more comprehensive road safety plan.

Specific improvements include a complete renovation of approximately 300-meter section of the Trakia highway at the 26th kilometer. A comprehensive road surface rehabilitation was performed, longitudinal noise markings were installed, and an updated road sign system was implemented.

Parallel to this, second-class road II-81 near the village of Manastirishte was improved by installing new restraint systems, modernized markings, and additional warning signs.

At present, activities continue on the remaining 8 sections, with the main focus being on precise road marking placement. The agency's management issues an explicit appeal to drivers for increased attention, strict adherence to traffic rules, and avoiding risky maneuvers.

The safety plan is not limited to the initially defined 36 routes. The agency has already developed a strategy for improving an additional 145 risky sections with a total length of around 500 kilometers. Their selection is based on an in-depth analysis of dangerous driving maneuvers and the need to update traffic management.

The initiative is part of the approved Road Safety Work Program, adopted by Council of Ministers Decision #296 from 09.05.2025. The deadline for implementing the planned measures is set for the end of 2026.
