While excavators are working on the new runway at Burgas Airport, the management does not waste time in search of new flight opportunities. Despite the extensive reconstruction, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD secured a new direct route for the summer of 2026. The low-cost airline Volotea will connect Burgas with Lille in Northern France.

The first flight on this route will take place on May 27, 2026, with flights operating once a week – every Wednesday. The good news is that tickets are already on sale. This makes Burgas Airport the second airport in Bulgaria served by Volotea, which is a positive sign for the development of tourism.

This new connection is important not only for French tourists wishing to get to know the Southern Black Sea coast, but also for Bulgarians.

This route will be convenient for both our compatriots living and working in France, and for those who wish to get to know the northern part of the country.

Michael Reusch, CEO of Fraport Twin Star, was delighted: "We are pleased to strengthen our ties with France by welcoming Volotea to Burgas Airport. Even with significant investments in the construction of our new runway, we continue to actively cooperate with airlines to expand our portfolio of routes. The new Lille-Burgas route is a strong sign of confidence in this destination and the long-term development of the region."

For those unfamiliar with Volotea, the company was founded in 2011 and has 19 bases in Europe, focusing primarily on medium-sized cities. They are quite strong in France, Italy and Spain and have even won the "Leading Low-Cost Airline in Europe" award several times, including in 2024 and 2025.

Valeria Rebasti from Volotea also commented on the new route: "We are pleased to launch Burgas Airport with this new seasonal route from Lille. This direct connection will strengthen ties between France and Bulgaria, support tourism on the Southern Black Sea coast and offer Bulgarian passengers a new, convenient option for reaching Northern France."

It is interesting to note that the Lille-Burgas route existed before, but was last served in 2023. Its resumption demonstrates interest and potential. Thus, even during a period of active construction activity, Burgas Airport shows that it is looking to the future and working for the benefit of more tourists and improving transport links.
