Critical hydrological situation on the Danube River

Navigation in the Bulgarian section of the Danube River remains heavily hindered, but has not been completely suspended. Despite the complex situation, individual vessels continue their passage under strict safety measures, reported the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River (EAEMDR).

As of August 5, the water level of the river at Ruse reached minus 97 cm relative to the reference zero mark, and the downward trend persists.

Draft restrictions for vessels

Due to low water levels, the EAEMDR is imposing strict requirements on vessel draft to avoid groundings:

Currently, the "River Supervision" directorate reports no grounded vessels, but many convoys remain waiting before the most difficult zones to pass.

Outlook

The hydrological situation remains complex. Although a relative stabilization of the levels is observed, any minimal drop creates a risk for navigation. The agency continues 24-hour monitoring of the fairway.
