Wholesale prices for most fruit and vegetables at Bulgaria's produce markets rose again this week, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (SCCEM) reports. Its market price index, which tracks wholesale food prices across the country, climbed 1.36% to 2.312 points, up from 2.281 points a week earlier.
The index has been calculated since 2005, when its base was set at 1.000 points.
Cucumbers saw the sharpest rise among vegetables, up 22.61% in a week to 1.60 euros a kilo wholesale. Red peppers rose 15.38% to 1.20 euros, and green peppers 13.31% to 1 euro a kilo.
Potatoes went up 8.94% to 0.64 euros a kilo, tomatoes 7.89% to 1.47 euros, lettuce 5.60% to 0.66 euros, courgettes 4.94% to 0.85 euros, and mature onions 1.31% to 0.58 euros.
Cabbage got cheaper, down 5.02% to 0.52 euros a kilo, as did carrots, down 3.03% to 0.64 euros.
Among the fruit SCCEM tracks, peaches rose 12.37% to 1.34 euros a kilo, apples 5.62% to 1.08 euros, and grapes 2.19% to 1.40 euros. Lemons dropped 0.76% to 1.63 euros a kilo.
Fresh milk rose 2.56% to 1.20 euros a litre, a 125g pack of butter rose 2.94% to 1.49 euros, and cow's cheese rose 0.62% to 6.10 euros a kilo. "Vitosha"-type yellow cheese fell 0.48% to 9.40 euros a kilo, yoghurt with 3% fat or more dropped 3.95% to 0.73 euros for a 400g tub, and frozen chicken fell 3.16% to 3.53 euros a kilo. Size-M eggs held steady at 0.19 euros each wholesale.
Among staple foods, type-500 flour rose 4.62% to 0.68 euros a kilo, mature beans rose 4.26% to 2.14 euros, lentils rose 3.37% to 2.07 euros, sugar rose 1.39% to 0.91 euros, and rice rose 0.31% to 1.61 euros. Cooking oil got cheaper, down 1.42% to 1.73 euros a litre.
