A container that appeared off the Korabite area near Sinemorets at midday yesterday is probably already in Turkish waters, Burgas regional governor Diko Dikov said. It was about 600 metres out at sea at the time. No one knows what is inside.
Two other containers on the southern Black Sea coast are still waiting to be removed, but the weather does not allow it.
All three most likely came from the cargo of the container ship that sank off Shabla after a drone attack. Warnings that containers were drifting south came even before they showed up on the southern coast.
At Korabite, waves threw a tank container among the rocks, and Border Police guard it around the clock. Dikov says it is empty, but for now no one can reach it because of the risk to the health and lives of even divers. Trying a small boat once the sea calms is being considered. One option is for a fire service boat to hook onto it and tow it away.
The second container is stuck between rocks near Tsarevo and, according to its papers, holds Christmas decorations. Flotilla admiral Radko Penev, who took part in the inspection, says the water there is very shallow and there is concern that a tug will not be able to get in and manoeuvre.
On 4 November we reported that waves had thrown a tank container onto the northern part of Sinemorets, in the Korabite area. The regional administration said the tank is empty, there is no risk of pollution, and the site is secured and guarded by Border Police.
Experts say the container near Tsarevo could be lifted out by helicopter.
