The 10th edition of the collection from the "Fairy Tale Stories with BNR Burgas" competition was presented today at the Centre for Contemporary Art and Library. The contest is 10 years old, and the book gathers work by 100 children from 26 schools.
Mikhail Nenov, Burgas deputy mayor for education, health, social affairs and youth policy, opened the event. The young authors presented their new fairy tales, short stories and poems.
Nenov said: "The most valuable thing about 'Fairy Tale Stories' is that behind every piece stands a child who has something to say and finds the courage to share it." He said ten years is a long time for an initiative that gives children a chance each year to tell stories, to dream and to discover the power of words. He thanked BNR Burgas for making room for children's imagination and talent for ten years.
BNR Burgas has run the contest since 2016, when the radio station marked its fifth anniversary. The aim at first was to encourage children to read and write, as digital devices take up more and more of their daily lives. Today children from all over Bulgaria and from Bulgarian schools abroad take part.
The children's texts are also turned into audio fairy tales, which can be heard on air and on the BNR Burgas YouTube channel. School libraries and chitalishte community cultural centres hold all ten editions of the collection. The contest has won the "Sirak Skitnik" award for a radio project of public importance.
Young talents from the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National School of Music and Dance Arts and the vocal group "Morski Pasachintsi" (Sea Pebbles), led by Milena Dobreva, performed at the event.
