A car hit 77-year-old Mary K., from the Bratya Miladinovi housing estate in Burgas, as she walked along a road between the Vetren and Banevo districts. The crash broke three of her ribs and fractured her left foot. Police tested the driver for alcohol and drugs at the scene, and both tests came back negative.
An ambulance crew took her to the Heart and Brain Hospital, where doctors examined her and admitted her to the chest surgery ward. Doctors say her life is not in danger.
The driver was 31-year-old Yani Yanev, from the Banevo district. Police tested him for alcohol and drugs at the scene too, and both came back negative. They also took a blood sample from him for lab tests, standard practice after a crash with injuries, and the results are still pending.
Police say the road was dry, the weather clear, and the stretch straight and flat.
