Bulgaria's small basket of basic goods cost 0.7% more in September than in August, trade union CITUB says. The basket cost 61.63 euros in August and rose to 62.02 euros a month later, according to Violeta Ivanova, deputy director of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research and Training.
The basket tracks 20 food items and one non-food item.
The union blames the rise mainly on petrol, up 3.2% on August, and on the start of seasonal price rises for fruit and vegetables. Cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes and apples saw the sharpest jumps, though basic food prices also crept up.
Overall, the union's monthly check found prices held steady in September.
