Primorsko mayor Ivan Gaykov has won a special award in the "Mayor of the Year 2026" contest, the Bulgarian Chamber of Builders says. Engineer Lyubomir Kachamakov, who heads the chamber's management board, handed him the prize at a ceremony at Sofia Tech Park.
The award goes to people who raise the standing of the building trade and work well with it. This is the third year running the chamber has given it, and it stands apart from the contest's main categories.
"Builders and local government share the same goals — to change our towns and make them better places to live, work and relax, and more attractive for business and investment," Kachamakov said. The chamber noted that Primorsko hosted the second "Black Sea Coast Building Site" contest and praised the town for organising events for people in the trade.
Gaykov thanked the chamber for the award and said the credit belongs to the whole town administration. He said Primorsko keeps growing through steady work on infrastructure and public spaces, and by working closely with businesses and trade groups.
In September the town began the third stage of rebuilding the link between Primorsko, the International Youth Centre and Kiten. Crews are laying a new water pipe on Stancho Kostadinov Street and adding pavements, lighting, a bike lane and extra parking. The street is part of a wider plan to upgrade transport and tourism infrastructure across the town, and Gaykov said projects are also being lined up for the area's other villages.
Near Yasna Polyana, the town is clearing trouble spots along the Dyavolska river to head off flooding. Gaykov said the work is paid for from the town's own budget to cut the risk when water levels rise.
Work on the 2027 budget has already begun, with public spaces, tourism and infrastructure staying top priorities. Gaykov says he wants Primorsko and Kiten to grow as tourist hubs, with better infrastructure and closer teamwork between local government, businesses and trade groups.
Gaykov has been mayor of Primorsko since 2023. Before that he worked in the town administration and in local business.
