The discovery of an SUV equipped with a signal jammer is further proof of the long-standing integration of mafia structures into the state apparatus, the Ministry of Interior, and security services. This comment was made in the corridors of the National Assembly by Ivaylo Mirchev, co-chairman of "Da, Bulgaria" and a Member of Parliament from the "Democratic Bulgaria" parliamentary group. According to him, the country faces the question of whether authorities will undertake deep reforms or limit themselves to "scratching the surface" of the mafia, while in reality, a true "skinning" is necessary.
Mirchev emphasized a number of actions that must be taken by investigators, noting that "Democratic Bulgaria" has already done much of the work in establishing the origins of the criminal activity. He insisted on an investigation into the following circumstances:
- The reasons for the presence of patrol cars in front of the "Berlin" hotel and the "Eight Dwarfs" establishment.
- The origin and ownership of the chip numbered 1994.
- The technical parameters and power of the discovered jammer.
In his statement, the MP pointed out that figures such as Ami, Taki, and Belingata are an inseparable part of the entire criminal network. He expressed concern that current processes represent merely a change of facade and the removal of certain "pawns" at the top, allowing the criminal structure to continue functioning undisturbed from below. According to Mirchev, Peevski is making deals with Taki and Boyko Borissov, which directly influences the setting of product fees.
Bozhidar Bozhanov, the other co-chairman of "Da, Bulgaria," announced the submission of a bill to amend the Law on Product Fees. The proposal provides for the abolition of these fees for motor vehicles with the aim of market liberalization. According to Bozhanov, this will allow for the expulsion of Taki from this sector, will lead to a reduction in prices, and will cut off financial flows to the oligarchy, as these fees are currently completely controlled by Taki and his associates.
Bozhanov also posed specific questions to Minister Demerdzhiev, calling on him to name the individuals who are systematically providing "cover" for criminal activities. He clarified the context surrounding the discovered SUV, noting that it was found days after the restaurant was searched, and raised questions regarding potential attempts to cover up evidence. The MP pointed out that the prosecutor's office has been "providing cover" for a long time, citing as an example a 2022 report by the Public Financial Inspection Agency regarding the "golden puddle" at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing. Although the inspection established a crime, the report was concealed by the prosecution. Bozhanov added that the company owning the equipment with the jammer shares a common owner in the past with the company from the "golden puddle." Due to the prosecutor's office's systematic refusal to provide information and take action, he concluded that the next key reform must be directed specifically at the prosecutor's office. "Democratic Bulgaria" will propose concrete reforms for the prosecution, as they do not see sufficient action from those in power despite their public statements.
